AMVCA 2018 TO HOLD SOON

AMVCA 2018 – Organisers of the popular Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), Africa Magic and MultiChoice have scheduled the 2018 edition of the prestigious award to hold on the 1st of September, 2018.

M-NET who are owners of Africa Magic and MultiChoice made the announcement on their website on Friday.

Also speaking on the event, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, Director of M-Net West Arica, said: “Nearly one year after the last AMVCAs, we are pleased to announce the call to entry for the 2018 edition of the Awards.

He noted that the African movie and television industry is brimming with exciting talents and Africa Magic are proud contributes to the industry.

“We give these talents the platform to showcase their skills and passion, celebrate their achievements while also encouraging them to continue honing their craft.”

Furthermore, according to the organisers, entries for the 2018 edition will open on March 1 and close on April 30.

It was also gathered from the website that there were 27 categories in all, and 7 would be opened to viewers while 20 will be decided by the respected AMVCA panel of judges.

M-net said that all films made-for-television movies or television series which have been broadcast or publicly screened during the period of October 1, 2016 to March 31 were eligible for entry.

The AMVCA is an annual accolade presented by Multichoice that recognizes and celebrates outstanding contributions and achievements of African filmmakers, actors and technicians to the success of the continent’s film and television industry.

It awards filmmakers in different categories, ranging from acting, directing to scriptwriting and cinematography. Other categories include: short film or online video, soundtrack, costume designing, sound and lighting, amongst others.

It could be recalled that last year, the movie ’76 won most of the awards, with Rita Dominic winning the Best Actress overall for her role in the movie. Funke Akindele’s  Jennifa’s Diary also won Best TV Show with Funke winning Best Actress (Comedy) while Chika Okpala popularly known as chief Zebrudaya went home with a car gift having won the Industry Merit Award.
