The Independent National Electoral Commission were adamant on omitting the River and Zamfara APC candidates in the 2019 general election. The stated reason was that Zamfara APC was accused by the Federal high court in Abuja of not conducting valid primaries and therefore are not eligible to field candidates for the election. Also, a federal high court in Port Harcourt had invalidated the direct and indirect primaries conducted by the two factions of APC in the state.
The Electoral commission affirmed in a public statement made by its chairman of information and voters education committee ,Festus Okoye that the commission met on the 30th of January and majorly approved the final list of the candidates for the governorship, house of Assembly and FCT area council election which will be staged on March 2, 2019.
He further disclosed that there are 105 chairmanship candidates, 701 councillorship candidates, 806 for the FCT area council and majorly 14,583 aspirants for the state assembly and lastly 1,066 aspirants for the governorship election. This list was released on Thursday and was signed by the INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony
