SAMSUNG S9 S9+ – When Samsung came out with the S8 and S8+ in 2017, everyone was wowed particularly because of the bezeless sides the very thin bezels at the top. We all assumed they had seen it all. It marked the beginning of slim bezels and many mobile phone manufacturers followed suit. The phone later went on to be one of the best smart phones released in 2017. The phone featured an amazing 12mp and an 8mp selfie camera.
But Hello! This is 2018 and nobody is expected to live on past glory. Well, Samsung lived up to expectations.
Introducing the Samsung S9 and S9+. The next level in smart phone photography.
The S9 campaign seems to making head way as the phone is receiving massive media attention. Camera seems to be their theme this year. The phone is even dubbed it “The Camera. Reimagined”. They made it a strong point or let me say what their whole campaign is all about.
Looking at the device, it doesn’t look or feel different from the S8. The only 2 features that seems to have changed is that there are two rear cameras and the position of the fingerprint scanner at the back. Most of the upgrade, according to Samsung is on the Camera.
So, what should we expect in this all new S9 and S9+:
This is the first time Samsung is manufacturing a dual camera device and it’s something I really look forward to. The dual camera was added to the S9 to enable it perform a lot of the camera related features included in the device.
This is a new feature to the smart phone camera world and definitely deserves a round of applause for the engineering crew. The Samsung S9 comes with dual aperture, 1.5 mode and 2.4 mode. Incase you are wondering the usefulness of this feature, it helps the camera to adjust the adaptability of the lens to bright and low light. It also helps in noise reduction in extremely low light using the multi frame technology.
Well, this is a first on an inbuilt camera. You would normally require a 3rd party app to render such a task on a video. But with the new Samsung S9, this comes with your default video camera. Video recording on this device is at 960fps limited up to 20 shots per video with approximately 0.2 seconds of recording and 6 seconds playback for each shot (Only supports HD resolution). This is 4x faster than the regular recording speed enabling you to record super slow clips, BGM auto selection, add your favorite music, loop moments and even share instantly. This is courtesy the Super Speed Dual Pixel Sensor.
DUAL OPTICAL IMAGE STABILIZATION
This is also a feature much needed in the smartphone camera world. Not everyone is a pro photographer and its not at all times you get the chance to be balanced to take a clear shot. You might even be balanced, while you target is not balanced. This feature helps to analyze the picture and capture a clear shot of imaging taking. This feature is made possible by the advanced dual OIS technology. But this feature is only available on S9+.
BIXBY LIVE TRANSLATION
This is another interesting feature I really look forward to. Though It was also present on the S8, the version included in the S9 is much more advanced. Bixby live translation option allows you translate foreign languages to your preferred language. It not only translates, it responds to voice commands. In adding to that, it can cognize food (Bixby Food), tell you the name, and the amount of calorie present. Bixby Place recognizes streets and street name, meaning you can’t actually get lost. Even though this feature does not support all languages, it’s still a plus.
This has been a reoccurring feature but it is worth mentioning because it was omitted in the S6. So, just to assure their customers that the feature is still available, I believe it is worth mentioning. This feature makes the phone an all-weather device. One less reason to see a phone engineer.
This feature looks abit like the animoji adopted by apple on their iPhone X but on this case, but it’s much more advanced. The emoji takes the shape of your face instead of pre-installed animations used on the iPhone X. It can also be used to create videos and shared on all social media. There are also preinstalled faces available should in case you want that.
Samsung S9 does not lack behind in sound quality as it comes with AKG tuned dual speakers and Dolby Atmos which gives you the surround sound effect with playing music or watching a movie.
REAR FINGER PRINT SENSOR
The Samsung S9 comes with rear facing fingerprint sensor, with has a position (Under the camera) quite different from that of S8 which was still at the back, but beside the camera. It is now much easier to unlock the device.
This is a feature that has really lacked behind on smartphone as it still has issues with low light and identical people. But Samsung promised a much more advanced version of this function in their S9
