Growing up in a family that is very rich is one thing that many people wish for all over the world even in Nigeria. Some rich families in Nigeria have great political power, make money through their oil businesses, are great agriculturists, and very successful in trade. Many of these families began from humble beginnings, some we can’t seem to trace the origins of their network. 1. BRIGGS FAMILY

The Briggs family comprises of wealthy individuals. Starting with Chief Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs, who is among the richest men in the country and a predecessor of the Briggs family in Kalabari kingdom, Rivers State. He is the founder of Moni Pulo Limited(MPL), a private aboriginal oil and gas exploration and production company. His wife, Mrs Seinye Lulu-Briggs, who is a businesswoman is also the CEO of Rachael Hotels Limited. His son, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs who is a lawyer by training is also very rich. He was the pioneer Execution Director and Chief Operating of Moni Pulo Limited from 1995 – 2002.

2. IBRU FAMILY 

The Ibru family are Urhobo people from Agbarha-Otar in Delta State. Chief Peter Epete Ibru and Janet Omotogor Ibru are the patriarch and matriarch of this great family and their eldest son, Michael Ibru was the founder of the Ibru Organization in 1956. This organization are into several types of business ranging from shipping, aviation, agriculture, oil and gas and even the banking sector. It is one of the biggest conglomerates in Nigeria with over 10,000 employees. The siblings of Michael Ibru are also very affluent, and they are Alex Ibru, Cecilia Ibru, Oboden Ibru, Olorogun Oskar and Felix Ibru.

3. OKOYA-THOMAS FAMILY

The Okoya-Thomas family is another rich family in Nigeria. Prince Molade Okoya-Thomas is the originator of this rich family. He has a degree in accounting from Columbia University in New York City. He started as an accountant with a company that his father had worked for several years with, CFAO and before his death, he was the chairman of CFAO Nigeria Limited. He was also the Director of Transcap Nigeria Limited, gateway Plc and Nigeria Limited, NFI Insurance Company Plc, and Chairman of Studio Press Nigeria Limited. Princess Olajumoke Abidemi Okoya-Thomas is also very rich.

4. DANTATA – DANGOTE FAMILY

The Dantata family is one of the richest families in Nigeria and the billionaire, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who is a business mogul and the richest black alive, is a member of this very rich family. This family is filled with very rich people and most of them have been successful with their agricultural businesses, politics and many others. The son of Oba Adedapo Adewale Tejuosho is also very rich. He is Lanre Tejuosho, a medical doctor by training and he is a present senator,(Chairman Senate Committee on Health).

7. TINUBU FAMILY

The Tinubu Family is another very rich family in Nigeria. Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an extremely man in Nigeria. His mother Chief Abibatu Mogaji was a very wealthy trader and businesswoman in Lagos and before her demise, she was the President-General of the Association of Nigeria Market Men and Women. Tinubu was an executive in Mobile for several years before he started his political career and later became the governor of Lagos State. He also has several investments in real estate and he is a very prolific businessman, who estimated to worth over 30 million dollars. His wife, Oluremi Tinubu is a politician and currently a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Saraki family is popular for its political power in Nigeria. Olusola Saraki was a Senator of the Second Republic and he was also the chairman of the defunct Societe General Bank. His son, Bukola Saraki is also a very prominent politician in Nigeria, he was formally the governor of Kwara State and presently the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. His sister, Gbemisola is also a politician and also a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Apart from politics, they are also into other private businesses.

9. FOLAWIYO FAMILY

The Folawiyo family is also an affluent family in Nigeria. Chief Wahab Folawiyo is the progenitor of this family. He founded the Yinka Folawiyo and Sons, a company that was into import and export business and it was later reformed to Yinka Folawiyo Group, which has investments in agriculture, shipping, energy and real estate. His son, Tunde Folawiyo, took full charge of the company. Tunde is presently worth about 650 million dollars.

10. IGBINEDION FAMILY

The Igbinedion family of Okada in Edo State is a very popular and rich family in Nigeria. The patriarch of this great family is Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, Esama of Benin. Though he started as a police officer before going into the automobile(car) business. His business grew and he has a big business empire which includes: oil refinery, private TV and radio stations, private bank, diamond business, gold and marble mines, Igbinedion University, several hotels, and real estate all over the country. His son Lucky Igbinedion is also a very prominent man and he was also a former governor of Delta State.
