YBNL FC – Just recently, YBNL boss, Olamide ‘Badoo’ Adedeji, went on a signing spree and conscripted three more young acts into the ever-growing YBNL Nation family. The record label which already included young guns such as Limerick and Davolee, and old G’s such as Dj Enimoney and Young John the wicked Producer, has started to take the semblance of a ‘squad’- a football squad.
It is a known fact that Olamide is a football fan, and a staunch follower of Spanish football giant, FC Barcelona. Everyone that follows football knows the style of play that is associated with Barcelona, and hence it would not be out of place to make a comparism between the way the YBNL outfit is run and that of La Liga club, FC Barcelona. The Basque club is famed for her ever-growing academy that churns out great prodigies on a regular basis, and Olamide has obviously taken a cue from them, as the YBNL regularly takes in young music acts and transforms them into world beaters – Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh to mention but a few.
So what if Olamide and his boys don the blue and red stripes of the club from Barcelona, who would be who?
YBNL FC – The Squad
YBNL FC – Eniola Olamilekan Adedeji (Dj Enimoney) Ter Stergen GK
In Barcelona, the undisputed number one is certainly the German shot-stopper, Ter Stergen. The goalkeeper had been one of the key centre pieces that have held the team together. His charismatic performance for the club has made him so popular in his native homeland that he is being touted as the best, after a certain Manuel Neuer. And if there is anybody in the mold of Stergen in YBNL Nation, it definitely would be Dj Enimoney.
The number one and official DJ of the YBNL franchise, DjEnimoney, is the younger brother of the record label’s boss, Olamide.
Eyebrows were raised when Olamide made Enimoney his official Dj, as almost everyone thought that Olamide just wanted to keep the money in his family, but over the years, the disc jockeying maestro has proven to all who cares to listen that he is more than worthy of the title of number one DJ in the YBNL empire. Interestingly, DjEnimoney’s dab ft Olamide is one of the most popular songs ever by a Nigerian DJ.
YBNL FC – Udomboso John Saviours (Young John d wicked Producer) and Philip Kayode Moses (Pheelz Mr. Producer) Pique and Umtiti
In the words of Sir Alex Ferguson, former Manchester United manager, “…attackers win you matches, but defenders win you titles’. And to further embellish this statement, Jose Mourinho would always state how important a defence is to a team’s title challenge.
Messi aside, one of the major reason why FC Barcelona is largely described as one of the best teams of the last decade is because of the notoriety of her defensive stalwarts, Pique and Umtiti. So if defence will win you titles, then defence does not come better than the Pique-Umtiti combination, as their trophy cabinet shows.
Just as in Barcelona. The YBNL group have over the years rested on the oars of the ‘defensive prowess’ of thier O’G producers, Pheelz ‘mr. Producer’ and YoungJohn ‘the wicked producer’.
Hit after hit. Jam after jam. Artiste after artiste, Youngjohn, and pheelz have marshaled the YBNL in such a way that they have become the envy of other record labels. And it is on the back of their excellence that YBNL have grown to this extent and are still growing.
YBNL FC – Oyebanjo Sunday (Bbanks) Shokoya Segun David (Davolee) Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto
Fullbacks, in football, double as both defensive backups, and added offensive options, down the wings. YBNL know that they can rely on both Bbanks and Davolee to defend the principles of the label, and also provide the needed push in taking the outfit to the next level. Typical Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto.
YBNL FC – Temmie Ovwasa…(Sergio Busquets)
‘keeping the balance’ is what Spanish midfield general, Sergio Busquets, is known for. He isn’t one for flair. He is calm, calculated and resourceful on the pitch. And more importantly, his style of play is soothing on the eye. But so is Temmie Ovwasa’s singing voice to the ears. She picks her words and pitches with such guile, just as Busquets does with the ball.
Just before she was signed onto YBNL, there was much fuss about the label being misogynist, but then she came, and Olamide showed that he has not just wanted to sign a female into the label all along, but he wanted the best there was. Although she isn’t given half as much plaudits as the others get, Temmie obviously has one of the best female singing voices around.
In Barcelona, Sergio isn’t given the ovation he deserves too but when he is taken out of the Barcelona team, then they start to struggle. Temmie Ovwasa is obviously the Sergio Busquets of the YBNL.
YBNL FC – Forune Ibrahim (Limerick) Arthur
When Olamide signed Limerick, he was already popular in some cycle. Although not many were farmiliar with his face, but many people on the Nairaland online forum were farmiliar with his moniker on the platform. He held many spellbound with the lyrics he spat when he battled on the platform. And by the time he dropped “Pesin” ft Olamide, he had succesully gathered even more fans to his corner.
The story is quite similar to Barca newboy, Arthur, who had already established himself in his native, Brazil, before making that big money move to la liga.
Just like Aurthur, much is expected from Limerick. However, we all know that they both possess the skill set to deliver when it matters most.
YBNL FC – Olamide Adedeji (Badoo) Lionel Messi
Born in Bariga, in the Lagos Mainland, the seasoned rapper would be none other than captain inspirational, Lionel Messi. Just like the Argentine whizkid has held the world in awe over his constituency and quality, over the last decade, Badoo too has consistently been dropping jams after jams that have taken over the Nigerian music scene at one point or the other. The Motigbana crooner, just like the Barcelona captain, has won all there is to win in the Nigerian music industry. From winning various categories of the Headies, to headlining major events across the globe, Olamide has become an icon to the public, and specifically to his new recruits. They see what he has been able to achieve so far, and they are all spurred to be just like him someday. This is exactly the kind of positive energy that Lionel Messi inspires on the pitch for FC Barcelona. That’s the stuff that a captain fantastic is made of.
More importantly, Lionel Messi is the chief orchestrator of all things positive in the Barcelona team. The mercurial number 10 is at the heart of every attack that the team conjures, and then when it eventually ends in a goal, it is around him they all cluster to celebrate. This is exactly the kind of situation the number one Lagos boy has been able to replicate in YBNL Nations. He is always at the centre of everything positive. Not only does he stand in and defends his boys when the need arises (like he did for Lil Kesh at the Headies) he also wants to lead by example (like he does when he features on his new signee’s tracks). The stuff of captain fantastic.
YBNL FC – Lawal Raheem (Lyta) Ousmanne Dembele
One of the greatest players of all times, Lionel Messi, is nearing the end of his glittering career, and Fc Barcelona are wisely thinking of life after the Argentine legend. Enter a certain French sensation, Ousamenne Dembele.
The YBNL have a Dembele-esque talent in their fold, in young Lawal Raheem, popularly known as Lyta.
Born in 1998, the singing sensation is one to watch out for. And if there’d be one to outdo the great badoo sneh, then it would be Lyta. Ousamanne Dembele is the future of barcelona, and Lyta, the future of YBNL.
YBNL FC – Damola (Fireboy DML) Phillipe Coutinho
Just like with Philipe Coutinho, when he exchanged Liverpool for Barcelona, many exploits are expected of singer, Damola Fireboy. Damola, whose style has a semblance to that of YBNL old boy, Adekunle Gold, is a joy to listen to. His lyrics, heartwarming. His swag, contagious. Just like the irrepressible Coutinho.
YBNL FC – Omogbolahan Sodiq Ilabode (Picazo)
The talented rapper got the attention of YBNL boss, Olamide, after he released a freestlye of Chinko Ekun’s Able god ft Lil Kesh and Zlatan, on his social media page that has since gone viral. Picazo whose real name is Omogbolahan Sodiq Illabode, did not hit fortune by chance.
His social media handles are testimonies to the amount of hard work the young chap puts in on a daily, as they are riddled with various one-minute freestyle clips. He first got the attention of the rap industry when he won 100,000 naira prize money in the ‘Waloda’ challenge, organized by one time YBNL rapper, Chinko Ekun, in 2017. Picazo currently doubles as both a rapper and a student of Mass Communication at the Lagos State University. His first single this year, Raptad, was released in March and has since begun to enjoy massive airplay and reviews.
Daring attitude. Huge work ethics. Luis Suarez would gladly take pride in Picazo.
YBNL FC – Subs bench
‘Welcome to YBNL, never walk alone, ishe Liverpool Fc’’, was how Olamide welcomed Yomi Blaze to the label. There is an obvious talent in the chap, and he’d soon start on the process of taking the music industry by strorm. Note the name, Yomi Blaze!
