Jennifer Odonwodo, wife of the late Nollywood star JohnPaul Odonwodo, famously known as Junior Pope, paid an emotional tribute to her husband on Friday, reflecting on the harrowing moment she learned of his passing.
In a post shared on her Instagram page and reported by Naij Mobile, she described the phone call she received as “the most devastating” of her entire life. Jennifer, a mother of three, recalled that the news reached her at approximately 3:00 p.m. while she was preparing for a photoshoot. She noted that her initial reaction was one of complete shock and denial, hoping the news of the boat capsizing was merely a prank.
According to Naij Mobile, the situation became starkly real when she arrived at the scene and witnessed a massive crowd. She detailed the heartbreaking sight of a vehicle driving past her with her husband’s lifeless body in the trunk, still wearing the red shorts he had on when he left their home. The emotional trauma was so severe that Jennifer was immediately hospitalized after her blood pressure spiked to over 210.
Jennifer shared her struggle to accept the finality of the loss, mentioning that she had kept Jollof rice ready for his return that evening. Her hope for a miracle only faded when pallbearers arrived with his casket. Accompanying her post were several videos showcasing Junior Pope’s joyful moments with his family. She concluded her tribute by affirming that God has remained faithful in looking after her, their children, and his mother, and by praying for the “Swag King” to continue to rest in peace.
