
The Nigerian gospel music industry is in mourning as news is confirmed that the legendary singer Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as Bunmi Omije Oju Mi, has died.
The singer passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos. Her death was confirmed through a statement released by her family and shared on social media by her colleague and friend, Alayo Melody.
The Official Statement
The statement, signed by Olawale Akinnaanu on behalf of the family, reads:
“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI). She passed away on 12th January 2026 at a hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest.”
Bunmi Akinnaanu became a household name following the release of her soul-stirring worship anthem, “Omije Oju Mi” (Tears from my eyes). The song, which spoke of divine intervention and comfort in times of sorrow, resonated with millions across Africa and the diaspora.
Before her full-time ministry in music, she had a career in banking, which she eventually left to pursue her calling. She was celebrated for her powerful vocals and her ability to lead listeners into deep moments of worship.
