NFF Sacks Super Falcons Technical Crew Following World Cup Miss

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons with immediate effect following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The NFF Executive Committee announced the decision in an official statement on Monday, marking an abrupt end to the coaching staff’s tenure after a disastrous continental campaign.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,as the federation confirmed via its official X account

The dismissal comes on the heels of Nigeria’s worst-ever performance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where the nine-time champions suffered a historic quarter-final exit.

  • Quarter-Final Upset: Nigeria crashed out of WAFCON after a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon, ending their streak of reaching at least the semi-finals in every previous edition.
  • Missed Automatic Qualification: The quarter-final exit stripped the Super Falcons of an automatic ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
  • Playoff Elimination: Forced into the African playoff route, Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, officially ending their hopes of reaching the inter-confederation playoffs.

For the first time in tournament history, Nigeria will not feature at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, missing out on the 2027 showcase in Brazil. The NFF is expected to announce an interim technical setup in the coming weeks ahead of upcoming international windows.
