Apple Announces iPhone SE 2020 with a Starting Price of $399

iPhone SE 2020

Apple’s long-rumoured replacement for the iPhone 8 has finally been announced and it’s called iPhone SE. The new iPhone is a budget device as expected and its pricing begins at $399 for the base model. The smartphone comes with the predicted 4.7-inch display, large bezels on the top and bottom and it features a home button with Touch ID.

iPhone SE 2020 is available in black, white and Product Red colours and pre-order begins Friday, April 17th. The 64GB base model storage goes for $399, the $128GB $499, while the 256GB model goes for $549. Like last year’s iPhone 11 series, it comes a free year subscription of Apple TV Plus.

The smartphone is reminiscent of the iPhone 8 in terms of design but it comes with a better camera and a more powerful processor. It is powered by Apple’s latest A13 Bionic chipset. There is only one version of the iPhone SE 2020 and there is no Plus Model, unlike the iPhone 8 Plus.

The new iPhone SE comes with a 12MP camera lens at the back with an LED Flash. The camera uses the A13 Bionic chipset to improve its Smart HDR photography which combines multiple shots into a single photo to improve detail and lighting for final output. The camera also comes with a portrait mode with the help of Apple’s “molecular depth sensing” tech. The portrait only works on humans and not pets. The camera is capable of shooting 4K videos at 60fps and Apple says it is capable of “cinematic” stabilization. For selfies, there is 7MP front-facing camera which also is capable of shooting portraits.

The iPhone SE has an IPS LCD Retina Display with True Tone colour. Since it features the same size and design as the iPhone 8, similar cases should work on both devices.

In terms of connectivity, there is support for Wi-Fi 6, Gigabit LTE and dual-SIMs with the second SIM slot being for eSIM. There is also the support of Haptic Touch. The new iPhone does not come with a headphone jack but it comes lightning earphones in the packaging. It comes with IP67 certification making it water-resistant.

Apple has not revealed its battery capacity but it comes with 5W charger that supports 18W fast-charging when used with the right adapter. It uses the regular lightning cable and it supports Qi wireless charging.
