A group of job seekers in Lagos has raised the alarm after allegedly being lured to a fraudulent recruitment exercise at a hotel in Magodo Estate, where they were systematically robbed of their valuables.
According to the video shared by X user, @dammiedammie35, the victims were invited to the upscale estate for what appeared to be a legitimate job interview. Upon arrival, the organizers instructed the attendees to deposit their phones, money, and other personal effects in designated rooms before moving to a separate area for a meal.
The situation turned into a nightmare when the applicants returned to retrieve their belongings. “They told us to leave our things and go eat. When we came back, everything was gone,” one of the victims recounted in a viral video.
The incident has sparked widespread fear online, with many expressing concerns that the setup could have easily escalated into a kidnapping. Naij Mobile notes that the brazen nature of the theft has highlighted the extreme vulnerability of Nigerian youth navigating a desperate unemployment landscape.
While residents speculate that this may be linked to a series of fake event scams in the area, authorities have urged all affected individuals to come forward and file official statements. As of the time of this report, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
