Great music can be found across Nigeria, but we often give the majority of credit to places like Lagos and Delta State. The best-known musicians from each state may have migrated to media hubs to chase their dreams, but there is only one place they will ever call home.
Some of these singers were born in the state that helped to define them, while others moved there as young children. All of these musicians were influenced by the state in which they grew up.
To pick these musicians, we looked at their biographies, Google Trends, Forbes’ list of the highest-paid Nigerian musicians, and used our own expertise. The list was chosen based on where people were born. See who the most famous musician is from your state below.

Cross River State
Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known by his stage name Iyanya, is a Nigerian recording artist and performer. He rose to fame after winning the first season of Project Fame West Africa, and is best known for his hit single “Kukere”. He co-founded the record label Made Men Music Group with Ubi Franklin in 2011.
Victor Eugenie Adere was born in Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos State, where he grew up with his family. He is the first of four children. He attended Heritage international school Lagos and Ekpan secondary school Warri. Victor began his music career in early 2014. He has worked with several producer, Kulboybeat, Kizzybeatz, ID Clef, Mr Nolimitz. Victor AD’s first musical release was “Jowo”. The song became Radio Continental’s theme song.
Kelechi is from Ivo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. He was born in Bauchi State into a family of six, comprising of five boys and one girl. He was raised in several parts of the country including Nassarawa, Kaduna and Abuja due to the fact that his father was a member of the Nigerian Army. At the age of 8, Tekno Miles was enrolled in a music school where he learned and mastered the rudiments of playing the piano and guitar. He is the elder brother to “Starboy” label act Spotless.
Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, better known by his stage name Phyno, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. He started his musical career as a producer in 2003. He is renowned for rapping in the Igbo language. His debut studio album, No Guts No Glory, was released in 2014

Bisade Ologunde ( lagbaja)
Nigerian singer Ologunde adopted the name Lagbaja (meaning ‘anonymous’ or ‘faceless one’ in Yoruba) as he embarked on his career in the early 90s. His name was reflected in his choice of stage attire – a slitted textile and rubber mask adopted so that the artist represented the ‘common man’ in keeping with the carnival tradition of his Yoruba tribe.
Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti (born 16 June 1962), popularly known as Femi Kuti, is a Nigerian musician born in London and raised in Lagos. David Adedeji Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born in Atlanta and raised in Lagos, Davido made his music debut as a member of the music group KB International.
9ice is a Nigerian musician. He is legally married to Adetola Anifalaje, a Nigerian-American serial entrepreneur. Their union is blessed with a baby girl. He is a south-westerner from Ogbomoso in Oyo State but he grew up in the district of Bariga in Lagos.

Jude Abaga, better known as M.I Abaga, is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist and record producer. He was CEO of Chocolate City from June 2015 to 2019. He won Best Hip Hop and Best New Act at the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards and was nominated in the Best International Act category at the BET Awards 2010.
