Top Naija Slangs – Nigeria is a beautiful place to live, from the ever-delicious jollof rice to the everlasting Pidgin English, despite all the bad news and terrible situation, Nigerian remains one of the cheerful people on planet Earth.
The official Language in Nigeria is English, and when someone is fluent in it, many consider the person to be very intelligent. But no matter how “Ajebutterish” a person may be or how fluent his/her English sound, some slangs have tied the knot with our tongue.
Let’s check them out:
Wetin
When some ask “Wetin”, he or she means “what”. For example, “wetin you say”? they are asking you “what are you saying”?
No wahala
Even if you schooled outside the shores of Nigeria, this phrase and your tongue are like 5 and 6. “No wahala” means “No problem everything is fine”.
Nor make me change am for you
No matter how cool-headed, you are there are sometimes someone just gets on your nerves and the next thing you are pointing and shaking your index finger saying this slang. Whenever someone tells you this slang, it is best you give person some space or stop whatever you are doing that is making the person angry.
Dem nor born you reach
I was waiting on a queue to withdraw to use the ATM on a Sunday morning when a guy just walked in and tried to break the line. A lady behind me who I think had a quarrel fight with her husband because of his constant hissing in my ear went gaga and shoved the guy out of line, next thing I heard her say was “dem nor born you reach! Na back you go dey”. Well, thanks to the security men in the premises, If not it things would have gone hot. If someone tells you “Dem nor born you reach,” it is a warning not to try anything funny.
Dash me
“Dash me” simply means “give it to me”. This slang is mostly used by Nigeria women when they want to collect money from their spouse or boyfriend. They have even made the phrase more effective by using “naaaaa” at the end of the slang.

This means trickery.
Dem send you?
A typical Nigerian mother would always use this slang, especially when their children are getting on their nerves. A Nigerian mother will be like “Uchenna dem send you? Tell dem say you miss road”
