The author of the Harry Porter books, J.K Rowling has been named the highest paid celebrity in Europe in 2017 with total earnings of $95 million over the past 12 months, according to a list released by Forbes.
The British novelist and screenwriter out-earned Real Madrid’s Portuguese super-star, Cristiano Ronaldo, who is second on the list, having grossed $93 million in the same period. Ronaldo, retained second position from last year after being listed the second highest paid celebrity in Europe behind defunct rock band, One Direction last year.
J.K Rowling whose increased earnings came from the sales of Harry Porter and the Cursed Child, a book she co-authored in 2016. Her major pay-day from the sales of over 1.3 million copies of the book has not only seen her become the highest paid celebrity in Europe, but also the highest paid author and the the third highest paid celebrity in the world, according to Forbes magazine.

The list, released yearly by Forbes does not factor in taxes and agents or management fees. This year’s list also features other notable European celebrities in the top 20; twelve of whom are British, with one celebrity each from Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland completing the list.
