Qualcomm shortly released the Snapdragon 855, which is the latest chipset with lovely tids and bits and of course the much anticipated 5G connectivity.

According to Qualcomm, the new chipset which provides about three times better performance, and with its 5G acclaimed connectivity, what more can we ask for?. Before we go further, here are the key features of the Snapdragon 855.

Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 855 processors with 5G

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 key features

At the moment, it has been released by Qualcomm that the Snapdragon 855 would support 5G connectivity, We also know that it will also support 4GLTE. In addition, it will also roll out the fourth generation AI engine and computer vision ISP (image signal processor) for enhanced photography. The chip would be an excellent step up and of course a big deal.

Introducing the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor

We are quite excited about the Snapdragon 855, however, Qualcomm also introduced the world’s first ultrasonic fingerprint under the display, titled the “3D Sonic Sensor”. It has been officially announced that this new feature will read your fingerprint even if your hands are wet or oily. There also speculations that Qualcomm is working with high-end gaming companies to roll out the Snapdragon mobile experience.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 features and specifications

The second day of the Snapdragon Summit began with the unveiling of the newest generation of the Snapdragon and its specifications. First and foremost, the new chip is designed based on the 7nm process technology. It will also offer long-lasting battery life and extra high experiences in critical areas such as audio, gaming, imaging and extended reality (XR)

5G Connectivity and the new Qualcomm Wi-Fi 6

5G will be launched in early 2019, and so this new chip is built to support it as well. It will, however, we unleashed with the new Snapdragon X50 5G modem while still having the 4g connectivity in the previous model. It supports 5G for both Sub-6 GHz and mmWave frequency bands, providing blazing-fast responsiveness and unprecedented speeds. It would also provide Multi-Gigabit speeds that were previously unachievable in mobile communication. It will support the top-notch immersive experiences such as multiplayer VR gaming, real-time video collaboration and shopping with AR.

The Snapdragon 855 will also come with the Qualcomm Wi-Fi 6-ready mobile platform which includes many features such as  8×8 sounding to serve more devices more efficiently (up to 2x improvement over 4×4 sounding devices), and the latest security with WPA3. The Target Wake-up Time will give up to 67% better power efficiency

Snapdragon 855 also supports mmWave Wi-Fi, utilizing the Qualcomm 60 GHz Wi-Fi mobile platform. You should expect up to 10GBps in terms of WiFi speed and wire-equivalent low latency It also supports the Qualcomm TrueWireless™ Stereo Plus technology which means consumption of battery will be quite low when using earbuds.

 Snapdragon 855-  Immersive Performance

When you hear of a top-end improved chip, the first thing that comes to mind is improved performance. However, looking at three times the existing performance is amazingly pleasant. The Snapdragon 88 will feature the Qualcomm Kryo 485 CPU built on Arm Cortex Technology, offering up to a 45% performance improvement over our previous generation flagship platform.

The new Qualcomm Adreno 640 GPU will also give up to 20% faster graphics than the existing generation while ensuring it stays at the top of the industry.

With improved gaming experiences using Adreno graphics, there will be an enhanced level of realism through the support of the physically based rendering (PBR) and Vulkan 1.1, high dynamic range (HDR).

New edge with AI

The Snapdragon 855 also presents the 4th generation multicore Qualcomm AI Engine which means over 7 trillion operations within a second and 3 times the previous AI performance.

There is also Qualcomm Hexagon 690 which also constitutes the newly designed Hexagon Tensor Accelerator (HTA) and four Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX) – a doubling of vector processing from our previous generation flagship, plus four scalar threads, all of which provide a powerful blend of dedicated and programmable AI acceleration.

The Adreno GPU Hardware enhancements would enhance AI acceleration which includes 50% more arithmetic logic units and a lot of accelerations from the new Kryo 485 CPU. There would also be a rollout of new AI Engine capabilities such as AI Speech, AnyVision, iFlytek, Elevoc, and Nalbi. It will also have the on-device Voice Assistant using a dedicated AI acceleration for noise suppression and echo cancellation.

Snapdragon 855 – Camera

We should, of course, expect fantastic videos and pics. There will be an integration of the new Qualcomm Spectra™ 380 ISP integrates numerous hardware accelerated computer vision (CV) capabilities, heralding the world’s first announced CV-ISP to offer cutting-edge computational photography and video capture features while at the same time means you can save up to 4x power savings.

Users can capture a video and replace objects in the same pic in real time with 4K HDR resolution using over 1 billion shades of colour, In addition, it would constitute hardware acceleration features to allow for a reduction in file sizes which means users have more ways to maximize space use.

A new definition of Entertainment

The new Snapdragon would allow enhanced video experience through the first cinematic tool, HDR10+ which would allow users to watch movies on a single change and with the hardware acceleration provided by H.265 and VP9 decoding offers higher energy efficiency. At 8K resolutions, there are more lovely experiences with watching, playing and sharing videos.

Already the 2018 smartphones were incredible with its high internet speed, AI and performance. who knows how fast this new processor and its functionality would go? In addition, we are expecting foldable smartphones from Samsung, Huawei, and LG. We can rightly speculate that these smartphones may have the new Snapdragon 855  and 5G connectivity. who wouldn’t agree that it will be an immense pleasure to us all to herald extra luxury and performance.

2019 smartphones would indeed be quite lovely as we expect the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor, 5G functionality and lots of power. We can’t wait for 2019!  What are your expectations, dear subscribers for 2019 Andriod Smartphones?
