Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, has made the three-man shortlist for the Europa League Player of the Season award. Fernandes will be up against Sevilla’s Ever Banega and Inter Milan striker, Romelu Lukaku.
Fernandes finished the competition as its highest goalscorer, netting eight times in 10 appearances for both United and Sporting Lisbon
Banega was influential in the middle of park for the trophy winners but has since joined Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab,
Lukaku scored seven times in the competition, as Inter ultimately lost in the final.
Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes netted against both FC Copenhagen and Sevilla during the min-tournament in Germany, after previously shining for Sporting Lisbon ahead of his move to Old Trafford in January. The Portugal international was top scorer in the 2019/20 Europa League with eight goals in 10 games, and also contributed four assists.
The jury used for selecting the three players was comprised of the coaches of the 48 clubs involved in the group-stage of the competition, along with 55 journalists from the ESM group.
The coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.Each member of the jury allocated five points, three points and one point, respectively, to their three choices.
Eden Hazard is the previous winner of this prestigious title.The UEFA men and women’s awards will be presented during the 2020/21 Champions League group-stage draw on 1 October.
