The draws for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for African countries was held in Egypt on Tuesday, January 21st.
The draws were for the second round as 40 teams were divided into eight groups. The Super Eagles of Nigeria are drawn in group C along side Cape Verde, Central African Republic and Liberia.
Failure to progress from the group would automatically end the Super Eagles chances of going to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
All three countries are ranked lower than the Super Eagles by FIFA, but as shown in the qualification series for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany where the Super Eagles lost the qualification ticket to Angola, no team on the continent should be taken for granted.
Under Gernot Rohr the Super Eagles navigated with ease the qualification series for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Egypt.
Can Cape Verde, Central African Republic or Liberia stop the Super Eagles of Nigeria from qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar? Time will tell.
